On Saturday, January 28, nine chili chefs squared off in Our Redeemer's First Annual Chili Cookoff. The throwdown featured everything from the traditional to the exotic, with a wide spectrum of creative entries including Texas-style chili, "Badger Chili," Indian-spiced chili, white chicken chili, and even a "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" (i.e. "We don't need no steenkin' recipe") chili. Judges sampled each entry, then cast ballots for their favorites. Greg Gerjerts took the inaugural trophy with his version of C. V. Wood's 1969 International Chili Society championship recipe. Rumors are already circulating about the 2013 competition, which we hear may or may not include a Cincinnati-style "five-way" and a Thai-spiced concoction. Stay tuned!
